INTRODUCTION — WHAT IS EXODUS ABOUT?
Exodus is more than a story about Israel escaping Egypt. It tells us who __________ is.
He is the God who:
Main idea:
God brings His people out of __________________ so that He can bring them into __________________ with Himself.
1. GOD HEARS THE CRY OF THE OPPRESSED
Read Exodus 2:23–25
Israel’s suffering did not mean God was __________________.
God:
Important truth:
We don’t always get to see what God is doing. We are called to __________________ Him even when we don’t.
God’s silence does not mean God’s __________________.
2. GOD CALLS MOSES
Read Exodus 3:7–10
Moses was about ______ years old when God called him.
Moses focused on his __________________.
God focused on His __________________.
God did not tell Moses:
“You are sufficient.”
God told him:
“I will be __________________ you.”
What does this teach us?
God’s call does not depend upon our confidence in __________________. It depends upon our confidence in __________________.
3. THE GOD WHO SAYS, “I AM”
Read Exodus 3:14
God told Moses:
“I AM WHO I AM.”
God is:
Our confidence is not ultimately in our __________________.
Our confidence is in __________________.
The world changes. People change. Circumstances change. But God remains __________________.
4. REDEMPTION REQUIRES A PASSOVER
Read Exodus 12:13
The Passover involved the sacrifice of a __________________.
Its blood was placed on the __________________.
The Passover points us toward __________________.
Paul declares:
“Christ, our __________________ Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.”
1 Corinthians 5:7
Israel needed deliverance from __________________.
We need deliverance from __________________.
The Gospel is not simply an invitation to improve ourselves.
It is the announcement that __________________ has acted to save us.
5. THE RED SEA — WHEN FAITH BECOMES TRUST
Read Exodus 14:13–14
Behind Israel was __________________.
In front of Israel was the __________________.
There appeared to be no way __________________.
Moses told the people:
“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD __________________ you today.”
Faith does not mean we will never face __________________ circumstances.
Faith means those circumstances do not have the __________________ word.
Sometimes God removes the difficult thing.
Sometimes He takes us __________________ it.
Personal Reflection:
What “Red Sea” are you trusting God to help you cross?
6. GOD DID NOT DELIVER THEM JUST TO MAKE THEM COMFORTABLE
Read Exodus 19:4
God said:
“I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to __________________.”
God did not simply rescue Israel __________________ something.
He rescued them __________________ Himself.
Israel was delivered from slavery so they could become God’s __________________ people.
Grace doesn’t simply get us out of trouble.
Grace brings us into __________________ with God.
7. REDEMPTION LEADS TO HOLINESS
Read Exodus 20:1–3
God gave Israel His commandments after He delivered them.
Grace comes __________________.
Obedience __________________.
We don’t obey in order to earn redemption.
We obey because we have been __________________.
As Nazarenes, we believe God’s grace doesn’t merely forgive our past.
God’s grace continues to __________________ us.
God desires to __________________ us.
Entire sanctification is about what God does __________________ us.
God desires to fill us with __________________ love.
Holiness becomes a way of life produced by the __________________ of God within us.
8. THE ULTIMATE BLESSING IS GOD’S PRESENCE
Read Exodus 33:14
God told Moses:
“I will personally __________________ with you.”
Moses understood that the greatest blessing wasn’t simply getting what he wanted.
The greatest blessing is having __________________ with us.
Mature faith says:
“God, whatever Your plan is, I want You __________________ it.”
Personal Reflection:
Am I more interested in God’s blessings, or in God’s presence?
9. EXODUS POINTS US TO JESUS
Complete the connections:
Israel was enslaved → Jesus is our __________________.
A lamb was sacrificed → Jesus is the __________________.
God established covenant → Jesus establishes the __________________ covenant.
God brought Israel through the waters → Christ brings us through __________________.
God called Israel to holiness → Christ calls us to __________________.
God promised His presence → The Holy Spirit __________________ within God’s people.
Revelation 21:3
The story that begins with God’s people in __________________ ends with God’s people in the __________________ of God.
WHAT DOES EXODUS SAY TO US?
1. God has not __________________ you.
2. God can use you even when you don’t feel __________________.
3. Your obstacle is not greater than your __________________.
4. Salvation is more than being __________________.
5. God’s __________________ is the greatest gift.
MY RESPONSE
This week, I need to remember:
God __________________ me.
God __________________ me.
God can __________________ me.
God wants to __________________ me.
God wants to __________________ with me.
My prayer:
“Lord, help me trust You when __________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________.”
