3 Life Lessons From A Donut

Intro: Today, before we jump into the word I want to take a minute and mentally prepare you for today’s message. I say that because, today’s message is going to be a little deep. I don’t want you to be caught off guard. The title of today’s message is 3 life lessons from a donut! See, I told you it was deep…

How many like donuts? Donuts are a regular part of my families week. Every Friday at the Ammon house is donut day. Donut day is a big deal! It’s a big deal for the kids because they love donuts. It’s a big deal for mom and dad because it’s a great motivator!

So I figured if donuts can be used to inspire and motive my kid, then maybe they can motivate us this morning!

So… 3 Life Lessons From A Donut…

I. Perspective…

A.) What do you see?

            i. Most of the time our eyes gravitate towards the hole. Towards what’s missing.

ii. Spiritually speaking we do this… We tend to focus on the negative space. The things missing.

iii. In doing this we miss the good! Don’t focus on the hole, focus on the donut!

iv. If you measured the circumference of the hole vs. the donut, you’ll find the donut is bigger. If were honest, we can find some good in the midst of the bad.

B.) Donuts still taste good on bad days!

            i. In fact, I’d purpose to you a donut makes a bad day better, amen?

ii. Psalm 119:68: “You are good and you do what is good, teach me your decrees.”

iii. God is always up to something good, we just have to have His perspective.

iv. How to do that? Keep Him at the center. Stay connected to Him.

II. Process…

A. We are all in process…

i. Working in a donut shop is no joke! They must get up super early to start the     process.

ii. Everyone of us are in process as we speak and will be until Jesus comes to get us.

iii. Philippians 1:6 “ And I am certain that God. Who began the good work within you, will continue His work UNTIL it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

iv. Just because God is doing a good work in us doesn’t mean it always goes good.

v. Think of a donut. Think of all the ingredients… These are good by themselves, but when mixed and fried, it turns out delicious. Look at your neighbor and say “you gotta get mixed and fried.”

B.) God will work out all those things…

i. Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the GOOD of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”

III. Purpose…

A. What’s missing?

            i. Nearly every donut has a hole. It has a void. A vital pieces that’s missing…

ii. The same is true for us. Every human being has a void in their inner man, that, without Christ will never be filled.

iii. God is the void filler. Remember, in Genesis? The earth was formless and VOID until He spoke.

iv. Your void without Him. You’re missing you’re purpose without Him.

v. Sure you can fill that void with other things but it’ll never be authentic.

B.) John 15:5 “Yes, I am the vine: you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

            i. Your life will remain empty until you allow Him to fill it.

ii. If your sitting here today and you don’t know Jesus, I want to tell you that the one who spoke in Genesis and brought from to what was formless and filled what was empty is speaking over you right now.
